Tôm Hải Sản Da Nang Review: Fresh Lobster & Crayfish by My Khe Beach (2026)

Tôm Hải Sản Da Nang Review: A Fresh Seafood Feast by My Khe Beach (With Kids and Grandma)

If your family loves seafood the way mine does, a trip to Da Nang is dangerous for your wallet in the best possible way. We are a household of confirmed crustacean addicts — my two kids and my mother could happily live on crab alone — so a fresh, affordable seafood dinner on the Vietnamese coast was at the very top of our list. This is an honest review of Tôm Hải Sản, a seafood restaurant in the My Khe Beach area of Da Nang that we visited in April 2026, and why I would go straight back the next time we are in town.

Why we were so excited for Da Nang seafood

Back home in Seoul, treating the family to a single steamed snow crab can easily run over ₩200,000 (roughly US$145). It is a once-in-a-while splurge, not a casual dinner. So when I kept reading that the seafood around My Khe Beach was both incredibly fresh and surprisingly good value, I knew we had to build at least one big seafood night into our trip.

We saved it for a special occasion. This trip doubled as a celebration of my mother’s 70th birthday, so I had quietly decided to flex a little and let everyone order what they wanted.

How we ended up at Tôm Hải Sản

We landed at the restaurant almost by route rather than by plan. After spending the late afternoon at Linh Ung Pagoda on the Son Tra Peninsula, we were heading back toward our hotel (the Hyatt) and decided to stop for dinner along the way. I had bookmarked a few highly rated, good-value spots beforehand, and Tôm Hải Sản kept coming up with strong reviews and reasonable prices, so that is where we went.

It turned out to be an easy, family-friendly choice — and a memorable one.

How the pricing works: pick your own from the tank

Here is the part first-time visitors should understand before they sit down, because it shapes the whole bill.

The premium live seafood — lobster, crayfish, and similar — is priced per 100 grams, not per item. When we wanted to order, a staff member walked us straight over to the tanks and invited us to choose the exact lobster and crayfish we wanted, then weighed them in front of us. It is a transparent system, but it does mean the final price depends entirely on the size of the creature you point at.

The two things we picked:

  • A lobster (the classic one)
  • A crayfish — similar to a lobster but with distinctive stripes, and something we had never tried before

A lovely surprise for the kids: the staff let them touch the seafood, hold it up, and pose for photos before it went to the kitchen. My 10-year-old and 5-year-old were absolutely thrilled — that little moment alone made the meal feel like an event rather than just dinner.

What we ordered and what it cost

We ended up choosing a 1 kg lobster and a 700 g crayfish. The prices broke down roughly like this:

  • Lobster, 1 kg — about ₩160,000 (≈ US$115)
  • Crayfish, 700 g — about ₩110,000 (≈ US$80)

I will be honest: by Vietnamese standards, those numbers made me gasp a little. Most of the rest of the menu is so cheap that the live seafood feels expensive by comparison. But measured against Korean prices, it was still around 20% cheaper than what we would pay at home for the equivalent.

My practical takeaway: because everything else on the menu is such good value, one piece of premium live seafood is often plenty. You do not need to order both a lobster and a crayfish to feel like you have feasted. We did it because it was a birthday celebration — but a single lobster or a single crayfish, rounded out with cheaper dishes, would make most families very happy.

How each dish tasted

This is the part that matters, so let me go dish by dish.

Lobster, stir-fried in black pepper sauce

Since we had eaten lobster a few times before, I went with the black pepper stir-fry preparation. It was the right call. The sauce was lightly sweet and soy-forward, finished with a clean, peppery kick that was flavorful without being heavy. Even my spice-averse 10-year-old and my 5-year-old happily cleaned their plates.

Crayfish, steamed

Because the crayfish was new to us, we ordered it simply steamed to taste it at its purest — and it was the star of the night. The meat was noticeably sweeter and more tender than steamed crustaceans I have had back home. Sometimes farmed or long-tanked seafood carries a faint chemical or “off” smell; there was absolutely none of that here. It tasted genuinely fresh.

crayfish

A note on portions: even though the lobster was 1 kg and the crayfish only 700 g, the actual amount of meat felt almost identical — the difference, if any, was within about 100 grams. So if you are choosing purely on value, two crayfish might be the smarter order than one big lobster.

Shrimp sashimi (raw shrimp)

We also tried the raw shrimp, and it was wonderfully firm, springy, and sweet. I was nervous about raw seafood and an upset stomach, but we were all completely fine. If you want to try it but worry about your kids’ stomachs, a sensible tip is to save the raw dishes for near the end of your trip, just before you fly home.

Pineapple fried rice and seafood ramen

To fill in the carbs, we added pineapple fried rice and a seafood ramen (noodles). Both were excellent, and we scraped the bowls completely clean. Nothing left behind.

The bill — and how we got a discount

Our total came to about US$206. Before paying, we noticed two stackable discounts the restaurant offered:

  • 5% off for leaving a Google review
  • 5% off for verifying membership in a Da Nang travel community (the “Da Nang Dokkaebi” group, popular with Korean travelers)

Because the total was large, we did both right there on the spot and took the combined 10% off. I kept the itemized receipt, too, which is handy for tracking exactly what you paid per gram.

Tip: Always ask about on-the-spot discounts before you settle the bill. A quick Google review took two minutes and meaningfully reduced our total.

Is Tôm Hải Sản worth it? My honest verdict

Yes — and I would go back without hesitation. My wallet was definitely lighter walking out, but every single person at the table, from my 5-year-old to my 70-year-old mother, had a fantastic time, and the food genuinely delivered. The freshness was the real thing, the staff were warm and great with children, and the value (especially compared to Seoul prices) was easy to justify.

When you are happy because your family is happy, that is money well spent.

Quick tips for visiting

  • Premium seafood is priced per 100 g. Choose your own from the tank and watch it weighed so there are no surprises.
  • One lobster or crayfish is usually enough — the cheaper dishes round out the meal beautifully.
  • By value, two crayfish may beat one large lobster, since the meat yield is similar.
  • Save raw dishes (like shrimp sashimi) for later in your trip if you are traveling with young kids.
  • Ask about discounts (Google review, travel-community membership) before paying.
  • Keep your receipt to see the per-gram breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tôm Hải Sản good for families with kids and elderly parents? Very much so. The staff let our children handle and photograph the seafood, the dishes ranged from mild (steamed) to lightly spiced (black pepper), and the relaxed setting suited three generations comfortably.

How expensive is the live seafood? Our 1 kg lobster was about US$115 and our 700 g crayfish about US$80. It is the priciest part of the menu by far, but still ran roughly 20% cheaper than equivalent prices in Korea, and the rest of the menu is very affordable.

Was the raw shrimp safe to eat? We all ate it with no problems, but raw seafood always carries some risk. If you are cautious — especially with children — consider trying it near the end of your trip.

Would you recommend it for a special occasion? Absolutely. We chose it to celebrate my mother’s 70th birthday, and it turned into one of the highlights of our whole Da Nang trip.
